Spirit Statement

My spirit comes from my family. I was born and raised in a large city. My parents and I would spend a lot of time at my two home First Nations: Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, Quebec, and Curve Lake First Nation, Ontario.  When visiting, we were always surrounded by family and building a foundation to call both places a home. As things changed in our lives, my mom (my biggest champion,) and I moved back to her home at Curve Lake where I was blessed to plant my roots and begin my family. I remember fondly my Aunties sitting with my Granny and listening to them speak Anishibemowin, and wondered what they were saying.  Now, I wish I could speak like they could.

Throughout the years, I have had many strong women in my life, and they have left a piece of themselves in me. I have been taught to be brave and take life as it comes as well as be honest with myself and accept who I am. I cherish knowledge and try to use my gifts wisely.
They’ve taught me to live my life selflessly and not selfishly, show honor and sincerity in all that I say and do, and to be true to myself and to others.

I try to respect the balance and needs of others and treat them the way I would like to be treated. I work not be hurtful, but to love – know love, love myself, and all gifts made by the Creator.  Perhaps the greatest gift I was handed is a sense of humour, laughter, and the ability to find the joy in any given situation. Within my circle of family, friends, and colleagues, this is not difficult to do.

I have been honoured with the opportnuity to work for and alongside many First Nations and all the goals seemed to be the same – community, health and wellness for now, and for seven generations to come.

I am a humble member of the CIPS team.
